Following his success with The Strokes in the early 2000s, Julian Casablancas embarked on a new musical journey in 2014, driven by the same desire to push boundaries that had defined his early career. This led to the formation of The Voidz, a band that embodies his vision of edgy, eclectic, and aggressive music designed for mainstream consumption while challenging conventional norms. The inception of The Voidz traces back to Julian's search for kindred spirits in music. During his solo live touring for Phrazes for the Young in 2010, he connected with Alex Carapetis (drums), Jeff Kite (keys), and Jake Bercovici bass/keys). This core trio expanded with the addition of Alex's old neighbor and friend Beardo (guitar) and Jake's former bandmate Amir Yagmai (guitar). The instant chemistry among these six musicians, both musically and personally, cemented the foundation of The Voidz. Bound together by a shared love for underground music, jazz, hip hop, world, African, electronic, and Middle Eastern influences, The Voidz constantly strive to blend and bend genres into a captivating and accessible form. Their creative process is fueled by a love of jamming and a penchant for the absurd. While the band members mostly reside in Los Angeles, where they recorded their last two records, they maintain strong ties to New York, where Julian lives and where their debut album Tyranny was created. Over the course of their first two albums (2014's Tyranny and 2018's Virtue), The Voidz' adventurous genre-mixing garnered a dedicated underground following and critical acclaim. The Voidz' mutant-pop sensibilities have been further highlighted through collaborations with diverse artists like Daft Punk (Infinity Repeating), Mac DeMarco (Did My Best), and an original song for the game Grand Theft Auto (Alien Crime Lord). Their forthcoming record, Like All Before You, set for release on September 20, 2024, promises to continue surprising audiences with it's blend of grit and beauty. Crafted in their Venice, CA home studio and Vox Studios in LA, the album features collaborations with notable producers and artists such as Ivan Wayman (Miley Cyrus, The War on Drugs), Justin Raisen (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kim Gordon, Yves Tumor), and SAD PONY (Lil Yachty, Drake). Like All Before You continues to build the intricate lore of The Voidz, inviting listeners further into their unique, otherworldly dimensions.
