Cover with soil to the original soil surface and water thoroughly. Blueberries can also be grown in large pots and containers if compost is used. In spring, feed with sulphate of ammonia, sulphate of potash, bone meal and top-dress with compost. 2. Watering: These bushes have moderate watering needs and should be watered at least once a week, more often during periods of extreme heat. 3. Fertilizing: Acidic fertilizers are the best for Sharpblue Blueberries. Choose a fertilizer marketed for azaleas as they have the same acidity needs. 4. Pruning: Prune in winter, cutting out dead or damaged branches. Prune branches back by about 1/2 of their length around planting time. Pruning typically is only needed every three years. 5.
