Lovetempo returns with a debut full-length: 'There Is A Light.' The album charts a journey from heartbreak and self-doubt into healing, connection, and self-acceptance. It is Mattie Safer's most personal and expansive work to date-a record about rediscovering your inner light and refusing to give up on love. 'There Is A Light' is about persevering through personal difficulties-heartbreak, burnout, late-night regrets,' Safer says. 'The idea that there is a truth and beauty to myself, my spirit, my love, my dreams-and that I can dig through all the noise, find it, and share it with the world.' Sonically, the album expands Lovetempo's palette. It builds on the electronic soul and 70s-inspired dance music of earlier releases but ventures into stranger, more emotionally and sonically adventurous terrain. It opens with the disco burner 'The Right Way,' setting the tone with it's plaintive cry for a love both real and true. 'Never The Same' and 'But I Do' twist club music into warped, jazzy shapes, while 'Thinking About You' and 'By Your Side' tap into the soft edges of Latin groove, heartbreak funk, and ambient soul. The title track, 'There Is A Light,' arrives as an electronic gospel anthem-spare, joyful, and defiant in it's optimism. 'I spent a long time in the wilderness after leaving The Rapture and going solo,' Safer reflects. 'I got married and divorced. I signed a record deal, only to have the label sit on my recordings for four years before eventually dropping me. I was making all these changes-cleaning up my life, studying songwriting and vocal technique-but I wasn't getting anywhere, because my self-image hadn't caught up. I was still anxious, still talking down to myself, still putting myself in bad situations. Lovetempo was the first thing I made that I really felt 100% confident in, because it truly felt like me, bringing all my musical personalities into one place. It wasn't about trying to prove anything or live up to anyone else's idea of me-it was about making the music I love.'That spirit of self-trust and freedom runs through the album's production. The sound is warm, textured, and deeply human, thanks in part to mixing and additional production by Carlos Truly (Ava Luna, Juan Wauters, Frankie Cosmos), who helped amplify the grit, spontaneity, and saturation in Safer's songs. Core collaborators include Dougie Stu, Toribio, and members of 79.5-vocalist Kate Mattison and multi-instrumentalist Izaak Mills; along with longtime musical family Morgan Wiley, Alberto Lopez, Jordan Auber, Mel Chambers, and Sheherzade Holman, all of whom add their voices, rhythms, and melodic sensibilities to the record's organic feel. And while 'There Is A Light' wrestles with longing, uncertainty, and emotional fallout, it's core message is clear: resilience, connection, and hope. 'I want people to believe in themselves,' Safer says. 'To believe in love. In kindness. In taking chances. That we're all better off if we lean on each other, and that through heartbreaks and failures, there is hope. There's a lot of pining on this record, but I've never given up on the journey. I believe love is a beautiful and transformational thing, and I will always choose it.'His debut album as Lovetempo follows a string of successful singles on NYC labels Razor-N-Tape Reserve (a self-titled 5-track EP in 2023 & the follow-up 'But I Do' in 2025) and Toucan Sounds with 2025's 'Live Or Die By Love' EP.
